The life sciences job market is experiencing significant shifts, and we anticipate this will continue throughout 2025 with a greater focus on roles that support product innovation, regulatory compliance, emerging technologies, and real-world evidence to demonstrate a product’s potential, clinical impact, and economic value.

According to Deloitte’s 2025 Life Sciences Outlook, “The life sciences industry appears poised for significant transformation in 2025, driven by digital advancements and scientific innovations. Despite competitive pressures and business volatility, most global life sciences executives are optimistic about the future.”

At BioBridges, we’ve talked to many analysts who believe that we’ll see an uptick in job growth by mid-year, and that gives all of us hope that 2025 will bring more opportunities to life sciences professionals.

Below, we’ve summarized the roles we’re seeing in demand, both from our clients’ requests and market research.

#1) Clinical Research Roles

As life sciences companies look at bringing new products to patients, they’re searching for experienced and innovative clinical operations professionals who can oversee clinical trials or programs.  Due to the complexity and global reach of clinical programs, roles in this category are in high demand.

The roles to watch for in this category are Clinical Operations Manager, Clinical Trial Lead, Director of Clinical Operations, and Head of Clinical Development Operations.

#2) Regulatory Affairs Professionals

The healthcare sector constantly evolves with new technologies, treatments, and approaches to obtain commercialization. With the rapid pace of change, regulatory professionals are in demand to keep companies compliant while supporting innovation.

The roles to watch for in this category are Director of Regulatory Affairs, Regulatory Strategy Lead, Regulatory Affairs Alliance Manager, and Senior Regulatory Specialist.

#3) Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Project Roles

In 2025, investments in people to implement artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) activities are rising.

Areas at the forefront of the revolution include the Discovery and R&D processes, which have been traditionally expensive with the need for significant resourcing. This change is becoming a reality, with the potential to reduce the time and cost associated with clinical development efficiently.

“Artificial intelligence investments by biopharma companies over the next five years could generate up to 11% in value relative to revenue across functional areas,” according to Deloitte analysis.

This type of work requires key roles, including Director of Computational Chemistry, AI-Augmented Quantitative Pharmacologist, Executive Director (ED) of Data Science and AI Research, and Director of Statistics and AI Research.

#4) HEOR & Real-World Evidence Professionals

If you have expertise in real-world evidence, you’ll have plenty of work in 2025 as companies prioritize this as a top initiative.

“Over half (56%) of our survey respondents say their companies are prioritizing real-world evidence and multimodal capabilities, which combine clinical, genomic, and patient-reported data,” according to the 2025 Life Sciences Outlook from Deloitte.

In-demand roles in this sector include Director of HEOR, Health Economics Analyst, Global HEOR Researcher, and HEOR Scientist.

Conclusion

At the end of 2024, many companies experienced staffing cuts or re-organizations that left them with knowledge gaps and the need to quickly fill roles without a full-time employee headcount. This increases the demand for fractional experts who can quickly jump in and keep a project moving forward in the life sciences job market.

We anticipate that 2025 will be a great year for many of our professionals, especially people in clinical research, regulatory affairs, HEOR, and those who can manage technology-driven projects, such as AI and machine learning implementations.
